This week’s BOTW is Hillsong United. Hillsong United have been one of our favourite bands for a while. We first learned of them through the original Hillsong worship band. For those of you who don’t know Hillsong and Hillsong United represent the same church, however Hillsong represents the church worship on a whole and Hillsong United represents the youth ministry of the church.
We became fans of Hillsong United because of their great music and the way they relate to the younger generation. Not only do they write great worship songs, they also do great cover’s of songs sung by Hillsong. Hillsong United have been a breath of fresh air for young Christian’s; especially those who are not into the ‘urban music’ scene. We (Adam and Matt) love all types of music and these guy’s along with quite a few other bands give us great songs and music in the style of mainstream rock. Music that we can jump and praise to and feel energized by. A lot of Hillsong United’s song reach out to us and encourage us to remember who Jesus is and also to go and ‘Tell The World’ about Jesus. ‘Tell The World’ just happens to be one of our favourite Hillsong United songs along with ‘Consuming Fire’ and many others. We’d be here all day if we had to name them all so we won’t.
We’ve made a playlist of some (not all) of our favourite Hillsong United songs for you to check out though so if you’re new to them be sure to check it out.
Hillsong United have become a source of great music for young people all around the world and a resource to church youth groups too bringing contemporary music styles and fusing them with Praise & Worship (lyrical content) to help this generation express Praise & Worship to God in a way they can relate to and give it to Him from their hearts.
Hillsong United is an Australian Christian rock and worship band. They started as the youth ministry band from Hillsong Church in Australia. Their music is praise and worship with a contemporary style that is a mix of contemporary Christian music and mainstream rock. The band was formerly named "United Live" and was led by Reuben Morgan and Marty Sampson. United Live made its first album on 1999 when worship pastor, Darlene Zschech suggested to Reuben that they make an album. (This has been mentioned by Reuben in the United We Stand DVD in the documentary section) Following the advice, Reuben and Marty led the team to make their very first album, Everyday. From there they made 3 more albums with Reuben. They changed the band name from "United Live" to Hillsong United after Reuben's departure in 2002. Joel Houston, the son of the church's senior pastor, replaced Reuben, and stepped up to lead the group together with Marty.
The band has toured in a number of countries, and their 2006 release
United We Stand was the best selling album of 2006 in Canada at
Christian retail stores.??Other members of Hillsong United include
Jonathon Douglass (J.D.), Jadwin Gilles, Annie Garratt, Bec Gilles and
Michelle Fragar who is the daughter of Russell Fragar also associated
with Hillsong. Michael Guy Chislett plays guitar for Hillsong United
and Matthew Tennikoff plays bass guitar. Popular New Zealand artist
Brooke Fraser also makes contributions to the Hillsong United albums,
(2005-) most recently in "All Of The Above" with the song "Hosanna"
